Tune Ups
Driving without interruption from Point A to Point B and back to Point A on a daily basis can provide you with a false sense of security about your vehicle’s present condition. If you have gone beyond your owner’s manual time-frame for a scheduled auto repair, there may be underlying issues which are not immediately noticeable. These issues could include:
- A misfiring spark plug
- A clogged air filter
- Worn down brake pads
- Faulty electrical system
- Damaged air conditioning
- Broken down transmission
The longer you wait to have a tune-up performed, the more your vehicle’s performance will decline resulting in a rough idle, poor gas mileage, and slowed acceleration.
While a tune-up focuses on servicing the ignition and fuel system, engine component malfunctions are also often discovered during a car tune-up. To keep your vehicle’s engine operating at a peak level of performance, schedule regular car tune-ups conducted by qualified, ASE-certified technicians.
At Jay’s Garage of Portland, OR, we invest in the latest diagnostics and repair equipment to ensure our highly-trained team of technicians can perform auto repair services in a timely manner at an affordable price.
What’s Included in a Tune-up?
Before a tune-up is performed, a technician of Jay’s Garage will review your vehicle’s file for notes for any information you provided to our scheduling staff about the presence of unusual noises or drops in your vehicle’s performance that may indicate the failure of specific components.
Then Jay’s Garage will perform a visual inspection and full diagnostics on your vehicle. Depending on whether your vehicle requires repairs outside of what a tune-up will address, our team will then proceed with checking your vehicle’s fluids and replacing and servicing the following parts: spark plugs; spark plug wires; air filter; fuel filter; and distributor cap and rotor.
If needed, your vehicle’s idle speed may also be adjusted to your manufacturer’s specifications.
How Often Do I Need to Schedule a Tune-Up?
The owner’s manual for your vehicle will provide you with a general guideline on how often you should schedule tune-ups for your vehicle. If you do not have the owner’s manual, the general rule is to have a tune-up performed every 2 years or every 30,000 miles.
If your vehicle is due for a tune-up, the Jay’s Garage team will listen to any concerns you have about your vehicle’s performance, conduct a comprehensive inspection including diagnostics and then perform a thorough tune-up.
